The Scrunch

Studio 5B | Woodbury School of Architecture

ARCH 302 | Spring 2023

Instructor: Cody Miner

Located in Downtown Los Angeles, this project is based off of the cartoon sequence from Tom and Jerry. Where Spike jumps at Tom with his sharp teeth and instead gets stuck to the tree. This cartoon sequence shows ideas of canopies, cantilevers, and connection details. The goal of my project is to use the idea of Spike getting stuck to the tree. Focusing on how Spike scrunches as he throws himself at Tom. The Scrunch becomes a place for creating open and closed spaces. Using cartoon qualities, this project explores cartoon physics in the real-world.
