City Squared
Studio 3A | Woodbury School of Architecture
ARCH 301 | Fall 2020
Instructor: Joshua Stein
This studio investigated different forms of methodologies to create architecture. The Nest assignment is based on the homes of weaverbirds. This assignment was inspired on how they weave sticks to create levels and entrances in their nest. The ADU assignment was designed for the client and their partner who moved back into their parents home. It was designed for a writer and a painter that only needed a space to work and sleep. The Merge assignment is the combination of the Nest and ADU. Using the creation of levels designed in the nest and the idea of “spaces kissing” in the ADU, the Merge was designed to incorporate the hierarchy and connectiveness of the spaces. Every assignment led to the final which was located in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California. The final assignment is a housing project designed to have a underground common space for people of Venice. The idea revolves around the everyday activities that people do in a city.
